CHILD'S historyRukia and her older sister Hisana were born into a low class family in Japan. However, Rukia doesn't remember much of her parents or her older sister--the former of which were killed in an accident that Rukia does not and cannot remember, and the latter having abandoned her shortly after their parents died.

The only childhood Rukia remembers is that of growing up in an orphanage and becoming close friends with Renji Abarai, a boy that Rukia took a strong liking to and outdid a few times through her stay at the orphanage (and by outdoing Renji she gained quite a crowd of fans of the other children there). But her stay at the orphanage ended when she up and decided to leave after the death of a couple of her closest friends there. She told Renji she was going to go to California. She had been accepted to attend the school there, Woodgrove Academy.

As much as she didn't want to leave the move to Woodgrove actually proved to be a smart thing to do. When she started to attend the school there Rukia met Byakuya Kuchiki, who adopted her into the Kuchiki family and started caring for her as a little sister. It confused her but Rukia was happy. She finally had a family again and as cold as her older brother was it didn't bother Rukia (she wouldn't admit it if it did, though).

Her move to California, despite how much she had not actually wanted to leave the 'family' she had made back the orphanage, turned out to be one of the best moves (in Rukia's book) that she had made in her life.
GIRL'S personality Rukia is a modest young woman who is actually a little bit clueless about a couple of things dealing with the modern world (though, what she does know, she has learned through schooling via the Kuchiki family, the news, and reading manga--which, really, doesn't teach her much except for romance and other things). She is graceful and "clean" yet these facts don't stop her from talking to people. She enjoys making friends and talking to others.

She's got a good heart though and would do anything to keep a friend, loved one, or family member safe.

Not to mention Rukia is able to act her way out of a number of things. Especially difficult situations and things that she doesn't want to do. Though, as good as her acting is, her drawing ability is another story. When trying to explain things (difficult or simple) Rukia tends to draw--which is one thing she absolutely enjoys--and...well...she doesn't do it all that well. She uses bunnies and teddy bears to replace people. But don't tell her she doesn't draw well. Rukia gets rather, and easily, offended when told that.
